To Dubai and beyond...

So, a few months ago I received an email from Dubai.  Now, I get emails from around the world on a regular basis, so it's not that out of the norm.  But this one was to be the featured artist at a Coffee and Tea Convention in Dubai.  Now, as an artist, I LOVE to travel, and the chance to travel to someplace as exotic as Dubai had me at indoor ski slope.  So, after a few rounds of emails I found myself on a flght halfway across the world to represent myself and my coffee art. What an amazing experience it was...this was my first time to the middle east and I found it exciting to be immersed in a new culture with different customs, friendly people, and tasty new foods.  I flew in a couple of days early in order to adjust the time zone change, but surprisingly it wasn't as much of an issue as I had thought that it was going to be.  And so, with wonderful hosts from couchsurfing.com my friend Nathan and I set about exploring the city.  Now, I'm not a mall person, but I AM a food person (beer anyone? :-) ) and in a city where 75% of the residents are expats, the variety of food was only limited to the number of countries in the world.  If the cuisine exists on this planet, then it exists in Dubai; and more precisely, in the Dubai malls.  Of course there are malls here in the states, but the malls of Dubai are on a different scale entirely. But enough about malls and shopping, I was there for the convention, and the convention was 3 days of amazing.  It was hosted at the Meydan hotel, a 5 star establishment built just for the horse track in front of it.  Over the 3 days I got to meet coffee lovers from all over the world , and for many of them it was their first time seeing art painted with coffee.  I never tire of seeing people discover my art (coffee, beer, or otherwise!) for their first time...especially in person.  It always makes them smile, and of course their next reaction is to sniff it.  And so, after 3 long days of painting, fielding questions, and inviting people to sniff the art, it was time to prepare for the trek back across the ocean to my home in Oregon.  Well, now that I'm home, (and even though I'm still dorwsy with jetlag :-) ) my artist's fuel tank is full and I'm ready to delve into a painting frenzy for the upcoming holiday season.  So, stay tuned new paintings and more importantly the launch of the BeerPainter.com store! till then....cheers!
